Smaller Numbers Would Give Happiness - Group

15/08/2021

Robin Maynard from the campaign group Population Matters, which advocates for smaller families and ultimately, a smaller number of people on the planet, writes in the Guardian praising journalist Laura Swinney who has published in the same paper a lengthy essay deconstructing fears of people having no or fewer children. Both Swinney and Maynard say that the people pushing for more people on earth are either fanatical free market businesspeople who need cheap labour, or else they are far right governments who want a supply of future soldiers. The environment and human happiness, on the contrary, they say, will benefit from people having no or fewer children, and the care given to children will improve with fewer mouths to feed.
