Eleanor Margolis writes in the “I” Newspaper about what she says are the sometimes weird products that are rainbow themed to mark Pride season. She notes that sometimes the connotation is entirely cynical, naming and shaming the You Tube platform for adopting a rainbow theme for the traditional marking of LGBT Pride, and yet notoriously failing to police homophobic and transphobic content on its website. She notes that sometimes the glut of Pride endorsements can make her feel “jaded”, but also warns those younger and more radical activists that want to repoliticise Pride, “In a country where such people as the professional disaster Ann Widdecombe are still blovating about the benefits of gay conversation therapy, rainbow mouthwash isn't hurting anybody. Sure, the pride flag is becoming so ubiquitous that it has practically lost all meaning, but isn't that at the very least better than it being banned?”.
