Isabel Ringrose writes an essay for the left wing weekly paper the Socialist Worker slamming the Home Secretary’s plans for reforms and beefing up of police in its new Criminal Justice legislation. Isabel is critical of those single issue feminist separatists, such as anti-trans feminists, who believe that more police on the streets will render society safer for women, remarking “Black people know only too well what happens when you give the police more powers”. Isabel says that government is “desperately worried” about the power of environmental activism and Black Lives Matter and is determined to crush the right to resist their rule. She argues that even small protests that make a lot of noise could be dubbed “criminal”. Elsewhere, the essay argues that the government plans more clampdowns on the gyspsy and traveler communities saying “Priti Patel’s hostility towards Gypsy and Traveller communities reflects the Tory preference of protecting private property over people’s lives. Her drive to demonise communities that don’t fit in with the permanently-settled model serves to reinforce capitalism’s claim that this is the only “normal” way to live.”
