In Candada, the adventures of a porcine named Esther have been turned into a book. Esther the amazing pig has two dads, Steve and Derek, and according to the Advocate paper, their blogs about Esther's adventures on the vegan ranch they run as a sanctuary for farm animals, have earned hundreds of thousands of fans. The book, “The True Adventures of Esther the Wonderpig” describes for children and adults how Steve and Derek adopted Esther in 2012 thinking she was a micropig, but realised with incredulity that she would grow to be a full scale pig. It also contains hearthwarming messages of tolerance and compassion for animals. Incidentally, if you think that it is unusual to keep a pig as a pet, our forebears certainly did not. Many Victorian families had piggie pets, and a pig kept in this way is known as a Peppermint Pig.
