"Stealthing" During Sex Might be Criminalised

02/05/2021

One in 5 men who have sex with men have been a victim of “stealthing”, which is a term referring to a penetrative partner secretly removing a condom during sexual intercourse. According to a report in the Guardian, one in three women worldwide may also be victims of this type of behaviour at the hands of hetersexual male partners - making it an overwhelmingly heterosexual type of assault. The Liberal Party in Australia is currently lobbying for stealthing to be made a specific form of rape, arguing that it removes consent. The Guardian said that whilst many women's groups in Oceana supported some legal clarificiation around the phenomenon, there were many heterosexual men who used the internet to celebrate “stealthing” culture and arguing that it should not at all be illegal.
