Divorce laws are changing in England and Wales, reports The Week In, a community magazine in east Bristol. Currently, unless there is a two year delay observed by both parties in a marriage or civil partnership, the divorce has to involve a “petition” which entails castigating one party or another. The government is keen to see a “no blame” divorce system replace this current set up, whose only defendents currently are radicalised religious groups who do not wish to see marriage law changed and divorce made easier. The majority of the public however, has expressed in polls, its support for “no blame” divorce. Legal experts agree that by omitting the “blame” stage, people can lessen the stress in the home and on any dependents who may be affected. In all, “no blame” divorce is felt by government and lawyers to be the least stressful and most beneficial way in which couples can amicably agree to go their separate ways, if a relationship has irrevocably broken down. Robert Buckland, the current Lord Chancellor and Secretary of State for Justice, has said that the likely possible date for implementation of the new procedures will be late 2021, after the Act of Parliament is assented to by Her Majesty the Queen.
