The National Health Service's gender clinic for young people has been criticised in a report published by BBC News, which at some length investigates long term issues with the service. External reports have suggested that the service is facing a crisis partly due to the large increase in numbers of young trans people coming forward and in need of assistance. The number of children and young people referred to the service grew from 97 in 2009-10 to 697 in 2014-15. Regrettably, targets for consultations have been missed and recommendations that the service cap its intake have not been taken up. The full story is available to see on the BBC News website.
