Reflecting on COVID19 by UNAIDS

05/01/2021

The World Health Organisation has issued a warning and a challenge to the global community in a message broadcast on its website by Director General Doctor Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus.  In the five minute video, Doctor Ghebreysus echoed the conclusions of many environmental groups that have noted that how we treat animals and the planet will impact how often pandemics occur and how well we are able to overcome such pandemics.  The head of UNAIDS, the United Nations Department on HIV, is Winnie Byanyima.  Ms Byanyima also tweeted recently that “We have learned from the AIDS response that it is only where rights are respected, protected, and fulfilled that countries can make progress against an epidemic and build fairer societies".
