Male circumcision is an issue which divides some groups in the queer communities. For LGBT Muslim and Jewish organisations, the issue is one of religious freedom. But an increasing number of secular and gay male activists are coming to regard the practice as a barbaric relic of Bronze Age religions and that it is a cruel mutilation of baby boys. Now, the National Secular Society, which campaigns against religious privilege, is assisting the police in appealing for information on a man called Mohamed Siddiqui, who was arrested two weeks ago and is suspected of causing harm to boys in botched religious circumcisions in Banbury and Bristol. Detectives have called for any parents or guardians of boys circumcised, or healthcare workers who have concerns about procedures or aftercare to come forward.
