You may heard or read in the gay press that the breakout film of the summer has been The Miseducation of Cameron Post, which deals with the horrific phenomena of religious re-education camps, which attempt to turn gay people straight, or trans youth into cisgender people. As the newswire Pink News puts it, “gay conversion therapy, although dismissed by medical experts, continues to be prevalent in the darker corners of society”. Whilst LGBT groups continue to work with legislators to try and eliminate the conversion camp problem, the star of Cameron Post, Chloe Grace Moretz, has told journalists that she intends to make a documentary to analyse in more detail the phenomena of these groups. She explained that as a woman growing up in a deeply conservative Southern Baptist family in the US, she has had to come to terms with the impact of fundamentalist religion on lots of people.
