In a capitalist society, money and corporate backing talks, and although there is a growing movement on the gay left which questions corporate appropriation of Pride, it is also true that on a day to day basis, companies’ displaying of Pride logos and symbols can educate the public and give members of our community a much needed boost, especially after lockdown. On our website we have been noting some of the companies we have spotted in Bristol nailing their Pride colours to the Proverbial mast. They include Sainsbury’s, The Halifax, Lloyds Bank, and at the other end of the scale, Excelsior Comics, The Card Shack and Prowler Bristol. An additional mention this week goes to the confectionary brand Skittles, who have taken the colours out of their packaging for July to make a statement on the necessity of embracing a diverse rainbow of people.
