Bloggers and some more radical parts of the LGBTQ movement have joined with other campaign groups in France to express concern about new legislation which would prohibit people taking photographs or images of the faces of police officers. In a country where public protest is very much a part of a dynamic democracy, this proposal, which passed the lower house of the French Parliament on Tuesday afternoon, is highly contentious. ACT-UP Paris was amongst those groups expressing concern. Activists fear that the proposal is a carte-blanche for unaccountable police actions. International news channel Al Jazeera reports that several demonstrations have taken place in Paris against the new legislation.
