And some late breaking news on the Dutch General Election. Cable and satellite news network Al Jazeera says that it’s most up to date opinion poll is predicting the anti-immigration and allegedly Islamophobic Freedom Party of the Netherlands led by Geert Wilders, may end up being the second largest party in the Parliament’s second chamber, although will almost certainly be frozen out of any coalitions formed. Mr Wilders has distanced himself from more common rightist leaders such as Hungary and Poland’s governments, in that Mr Wilders advocates for women’s, Jewsh and LGBTQ freedom in the context of an anti-immigration line. In this respect, Wilders is a socially libertarian anti-Immigration leader, in the mould of Dutch nationalist leader Pim Fortuyn who was assassinated by animal rights extremists in 2002. Mr Fortuyn pioneered a type of third way politics, taking anti-immigration policies and merging them with socially libertarian views on individuality. Mr Fortuyn was openly gay, although official Dutch gay groups had little to do with him.
