Demonstration Calls out Press Transphobes

09/09/2022

Pink News reports that more than one hundred people attended a demonstration in Dublin outside the offices of the Irish Independent newspaper, to protest at its consistent platforming of anti-transgender extremism, and refusal to give any space to trans groups to respond.  Trans and Intersex Pride organiser Ollie Bell told the crowd the community has had “enough of the media attacks on trans people in the Irish media.   [The Irish] Independent especially has been on this anti-trans crusade with article after article spewing and spreading hateful, harmful transphobic rhetoric,” Bell said.   Speakers noted that society faces major issues including cost of living spikes and a very literal meltdown in climate, but that the right wing press continues to try and stir up hatred against minority groups to hoodwink the public.
