Belgrade Pride Gains Official Support from PM

26/09/2018

The pro-democracy broadcaster Radio Free Europe says that the Prime Minister of Serbia and the Mayor of the Capital City, Belgrade, joined several hundred LGBT activists in a show of solidarity for a Pride March and festival in the Balkan country. Prime Minister Ana Brnabic is the first openly gay state leader in South Eastern Europe, where it is reported that homophobic prejudice remains widespread. Radio Free Europe reports that there have been no major incidents at Belgrade Pride since 2010, when Nazis and fundamentalists tried to disrupt the peaceful march.
