Stipe Discusses Commentary in Visual Work

15/07/2021

Visual Artist Michael Stipe, formerly the lead singer of rock band R.E.M., was the special guest of Stephen Sackur on Saturday night's HardTalk programme on the BBC Parliament station. Mr Stipe, who has identified as queer for a long time, spoke of his recent anthologies, and how accessible his work is. He also touched upon the political aspects of his music and visual work and how opposing the administrations of George W Bush and Donald Trump had been a challenge, but one which he saw as ultimately “worth it”.
