Digital Spy says that Channel Four Television have teased the public with a wonderful trailer for the new gay themed drama series by Russell T Davies, the writer who brought us Queer as Folk in 1999 and who revived Doctor Who for BBC TV in 2005. Taking its title from the emotive Pet Shop Boys track “It’s A Sin”, the drama looks as the tumultuous eighties through the eyes of a multiethnic friendship group of London gay men. They were, to quote Charles Dickins, the Best of Times and the Worst of Times. The Eighties saw massive homophobia in the country at large, attempts to close down bookshops and newspapers, and a politically polarizing government. But it also saw gay people rally, organize and help deal with a health crisis that puts coronavirus into perspective. The series will star Olly Alexander from the band Years and Years and Tracey Ann Oberman. And there will be an appearance from gay raconteur and wit Stephen Fry. But many of the cast will be new to television and are sure to make their names in this exciting new drama.
