Acclaimed r and b singer and nineties hit maker Tevin Campbell has come out formally as gay, although as LGBTQ Nation News notes, he has been out to family and friends for decades. His hits include “Tell Me What You Want to Do” and “Alone With You”, plus “Can We Talk” and “I’m Ready”. As an acting prodigy, Tevin also appeared in the Fresh Prince of Bel Air. Campbell said the music industry has made a lot of progress when it comes to queer representation, referring to Frank Ocean and Lil Nas X. Tevin said “I hate that it wasn’t like that in the 90’s, but I’m glad I get to see that. I wouldn’t have been prepared when I was a kid to be a spokesperson for the LGBTQ community, but I’m glad that it’s changing because there are a lot of kids, especially young Black boys, that need to see representation, because the machismo thing exists in our culture, that is poison.”
