Cashman Reveals Extent of Eighties Homophobia

21/07/2017

If you think that homophobic trolling is just a feature of the internet age, think again. Lord Cashman, whose famous screen kiss with his on screen boyfriend back in 1987 in the BBC-1 soap opera Easternders was a first for British TV, has revealed to gay magazine “Attitude” that he has only relatively recently seen some of the correspondence sent in to the Beeb by homophobes. The BBC was kind enough to protect the young actor in the eighties from the rantings of the haters . Lord Cashman, who has since campaigned for equal rights through the Labour Party and the European Union, played Colin in the soap opera between 1986 and 1989 and briefly reprised the role last year.
