There’s a treat for television fans on Friday night. At 10pm, vintage channel Talking Pictures TV heads back to 1975 and the classic movie adaptation of outrageous camp classic The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Written by Richard O’Brien, who stars alongside the inimitable Tim Curry, the Rocky Horror Picture Show is an homage to gothic horror, 1950s B Movies and musical theatre, fusing these elements with an outlandish script and thoroughly transgressive sensibility. Although panned by critics on its initial release, within a matter of months, the film was attracting a very LGBTQ audience for late night singalongs at movie theatres, a tradition which continues to this day. Tim Curry plays the improbably named Frank N Furter, a mad scientist with a posh London accent who actually comes from outer space. Rocky Horror definitely has its place in the pantheon of underground and LGBTQ cinema and if you’ve never seen it, then be prepared for a very uplifting, and very silly, experience.
