Asexual Character in Soap Gets Good Reception

11/04/2021

Isobel Steele plays Liv in the popular ITV Soap Opera Emmerdale, which has been running on the ITV network since 1971.  Liv is however, the first asexual character on the show.  Isobel speaking with media website Digital Spy said that she was delighted both at the programme makers including this aspect of Liv’s identity as an essential but not defining component of the character’s personality, and also pleased with the response of viewers.  “"I think the way the writers have continued to talk about it is really great. I'm really chuffed that it's been so well-received and I'm really proud to be part of it."  Steele also notes that she is exploring the character’s asexual identity with her onscreen partner Vinny.  Isobel concludes “"That's why I like the relationship so much, it's just very innocent and pure. The fact they have this conversation, but it doesn't overpower the relationship and Vinny is okay with it, makes it more beautiful in my opinion."
