Kate Osborne, the popular Member of Parliament for Jarrow in Tyne and Wear has said that homophobes and misogynists from the political far right wing will not grind her down despite their best efforts at harassing her. Ms Osborne was speaking after homophobic extremist Susan Dematas was in court to face charges of threatening violence against the Labour MP. Dematas, who has earned the nick name “Demented Dematas” on gay forums for her homophobic tweets, will be sentenced in mid September. Far right groups have been trying for some time to get at Ms Osborne in their usual childish fashion, with Pink News reporting illegal vandalism of public property which attacks Ms Osborne’s policies and sexuality. Ms Osborne’s statement said “Sadly, these types of instances seem to be taking place more often, with a rising tide of abuse and aggression shown towards MPs being dismissed as just part of the job. For an LGBTQ+ woman, the abuse often includes sexist and homophobic attacks”. Osborne said that the attacks were not going to get to her.
