San Francisco's LGBTQIA newspaper, the Bay Area Reporter says that the United States first ever gay ambassador James C Hormel has passed on at the age of eighty eight. He died with his husband at his side and with his favourite piece of music, but Beethoven playing. Mr Hormel was the US ambassador to the central European dukedom of Luxembourg between 1999 and 2001. He had worked hard for the appointment, which was made by Bill Clinton, who issued a joint statement with his wife expressing their sadness at his passing. "Jim Hormel was a barrier-breaking public servant, champion for LGBTQ equality, and cherished friend who will be dearly missed in San Francisco, in our nation and around the world," stated House Speaker Nancy Pelosi . Mr Hormel also worked in the LGBTQIA voluntary movement, helping to found the Human Rights Campaign, a moderate lobbying group, which has been successful in getting LGBTQIA rights on the table at government level. He also was active in AIDS organisations during the HIV pandemic. A successful businessman, Mr Hormel used his financial acuity to help put LGBTQIA organisations on a good financial footing. That's the life of James C Hormel, the first openly gay person to be appointed an ambassador of the US. He has passed on at eighty eight.
