The Imitation Game, starring Benedict Cumberbatch, gets an airing on the FILM4 channel (available on Freeview 15 and on Sky, BT and Virgin platforms across the UK) on Thursday night. The movie is based loosely on a 1983 book by Andrew Hodges which deals with the life of Alan Turing, the atheist, gay hero who was instrumental in helping break German cypher codes during the Second World War and who many historians agree helped to bring a swift conclusion to the conflict. The movie has an approval rating of around ninety per cent on the frequently difficult to please critical website Rotten Tomatoes. The film has received some light criticism for allegedly downplaying Turing's homosexuality, in favour of an illfated heterosexual dalliance, but the producers of the film told journalists: "There is not – and never has been – a version of our script where Alan Turing is anything other than homosexual, nor have we included fictitious sex scenes.". See for yourself – tune in to Film 4 at 6.45pm.
