Our pub watchers are pleased to report, that as the English Lockdown is gradually lifted, and the gay community emerges blinking somewhat in the summer sunshine, the Old Market Tavern is open from this week. The pub, at 29-31 Old Market Street, has been an essential part of gay culture in the city since the late nineteen nineties. An old world feel, locally produced beers, ales and ciders, wine and soft drinks, make it popular with a variety of tribes who gather there, including local gay friendly students, gaymers (that's LGBT people into board games), lesbians, bi women, gay men, leather guys, gay skinheads, trans people, cross dressers and indeed everyone's welcome. The beer garden is gorgeous at this time of year, and allows for peace and quiet in the midst of the city. For the time being, the venue does not have a kitchen, but says that it hopes to start offering its well loved pub grub as the corona crisis recedes into the distance. When that time happens, look out for its extensive vegetarian and vegan range, which are taste sensations.
