Hits Radio, a national radio station in the UK playing top forty music, is to launch a six month temporary service on several digital platforms aimed at the LGBTQ communities. Called Hits Radio Pride, the new service aims to reach members of our communities in the 25 to 45 age category and is particularly keen to reach those areas where there is as yet little LGBTQ specific media. With this in mind, the station will be available initially on DAB in Bradford, Stoke, Swansea, Liverpool and Northern Ireland, as well as on DAB+ in London. The new service has been developed with the assistance of the Audio Content Fund from the government and with financial support from the Co-operative Bank. As well as music, the temporary six month station will air “Tough Talks”, which are intimate conversations with members of the community relating struggles in daily life. Hits Radio presenter Jordan Lee told media website RCS that ““As radio partner of multiple Pride events around the UK, Hits Radio has been a real cheerleader for diversity and inclusion, so we’re really humbled to be able to step-up that commitment with the launch of this new station”.
