Digital Stereo Choice for LGBTQ Listeners

02/04/2021

There will be more choice for LGBTQ radio listeners in the North East city of Newcastle from June, when a new DAB multiplex is to be switched on.  A multiplex on DAB can carry dozens of stations and the Newcastle small scale service is the first of a new series of transmitters that will be dedicated to non-profit, local and small scale radio services.  On the Newcastle multiplex will be Pride Radio, a local service which also has an FM frequency on 89.2, plus Glitterbeam, who offer a wide range of LGBTQ programming.  Between them, these services will cater for the gay, trans and non-binary communities of the city in crystal clear digital stereo.  Around four hundred thousand people will be in their digital broadcast area.  Congratulations to all involved, and it is great to hear that LGBT media is booming in the North East.  Other stations which will be transmitting via the multiplex include an Asian station, a station dedicated to older people and local community radio.
