Bristol Sex Workers Delighted after Vote Win

06/08/2022

Bristol Sex Workers Collective have said that they are “screaming and crying with joy” after Bristol City Council voted against closing down the licensed adult entertainment venues in the city. The Collective, which is affiliated to the UVW grassroots union, said that the battle to keep the venues open, and women in work, had been a “two year slog against forces with far more institutional power”. The City Council voted by nine to one against the closure of the venues. Bristol Women’s Voice said that they were “disappointed” by the news, but other feminist groups said that it was time for the different sides in the debate to work together to ensure that women were safe in all contexts and that the real enemy was hetero-patriarchy.
