A new book on the 2017 General Election will argue that evangelical Christian Tim Farron, who led the Liberal Democrat Party in to the election, was largely responsible for the poor showing of the party at the polls, owing to his equivocation on issues such as homosexuality and abortion. According to the Guardian newspaper, the Palgrave published title, simply called the “General Election of 2017” will reveal how out of step the fundamentalist Farron was with the both the electorate and the rest of the Liberal Democrats, who have had a gay rights platform since 1975. Since quitting as the party's leader when the LibDems gained only twelve seats at Westminster, Mr Farron has told a Christian radio station that he now believes that both homosexuality and abortion are wrong. The Liberal Democrat Party, however, has reaffirmed its commitment to individual liberty and a woman's right to choose under its new leader Sir Vince Cable.
