The communist daily newspaper, the Morning Star reports that LGBT activists marked International Migrants Day yesterday by plastering hundreds of adverts on London's Tube network telling passengers how to stop deportations on commercial airlines.
The Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants group replaced 200 ads on the Piccadilly, Victoria and Central lines.
The group’s See It, Say It, Stop It ads — a spin on the British Transport Police's See It, Say It, Sorted security campaign — highlights the government's practice of deporting migrants on commercial flights. Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants is a reincarnation of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners, which was formed during the bitter 1984 pits dispute. The strength of solidarity from LGBT people in that period helped to develop gay rights policies within the trade union movement and the Labour Party and helped erode the macho heterosexism that was traditionally a part of left wing politics.
