Jake Shears of the acclaimed pop band the Scissor Sisters has told Channel Four television and newswire Pink News that it is important LGBT people keep their queer culture alive, even in an age when assimilation is easy and there are less barriers to joining the mainstream. He said “not everyone needs to assume the mould” of a nuclear family in order to be accepted. And added that It’s important that as society becomes more inclusive, and we’re allowed to marry each other, that we keep our queer values.” The Scissor Sisters have been championing a thoroughly queer sensibility for the past fourteen years of chart action, and have also diversified, with Shears' friend and collaborator Ana Matronic joining the roster of weekend Djs on BBC Radio Two, where she presents the “Disco Devotion” programme.
