Stepping Out Theatre, a local mental health service user led drama group, are both award winning and critically acclaimed. They bring together many professional actors from stage and screen with people with lived experience of mental distress, to show that people can live productive and creative lives in spite of their health concerns. The service is very LGBT friendly and past productions have included a lesbian sleuth known as Shirley Homes, and transgender Greek Choruses. Their latest production is on now and is called “Hunters and Gatherers”. In their press release, the group says “Harry hunts the Lizard People responsible for murdering the man he loved. Benny hides away in his flat surrounded by the TV show memorabilia he is hoarding”. If that sounds rather downbeat, remember that “Stepping Out Theatre” always include much fun and darkly comic humour in all their productions. The group is supported by Lloyds Bank and various charitable trusts.
