Many people will be sleeping rough this Christmas, even in affluent Bristol. However, there is a project to help alleviate homelessness which has been providing help and support for nearly thirty years. The Big Issue is a street sold magazine, which retails at three pounds a week and which is sold by vendors affected by homelessness or housing issues. The magazine has a long tradition of gay friendly comment and reportage and in its special festive week edition, out now, meets up with lesbian crime sleuth Val McDermid to find out what books are on her bedside cabinet for these frozen silent nights. The magazine is street sold throughout our region.
