Taking on Misogyny in Italian Courts

07/04/2019

Two hundred feminists and allies have rallied outside the courtrooms at the Italian city of Ancona after two male suspects were cleared of raping a woman. The two men, who hail from Peru, were cleared by the appeals court in the Central Italian city did not find the woman claimant believable, according to the Metro newspaper. The forensics team had found a date rape drug and that the woman's injuries were consistent with rape. However, the judges ruled that it was not possible to exclude the possibility that it was she who had organised the evening of revelry. The case will be retried in the city of Perugia and the protestors say that the justice system in Italy is misogynist and performs “witch hunts” of women who enjoy their sexuality.
