LGBT campaigners and their allies in the pagan and humanist movements have welcomed the guilty verdict delivered on a member of a fringe religious cult, called Damon Kelly. The fifty seven year old first came to the attention of the gay newswire Pink News in 2014, when he was found to be delivering unsolicited anti-gay leaflets through letterboxes in Leicestershire and a number of other towns and cities apparently chosen at random. At the time, campaigners feared that there was little they could do to counter his presence, even though many people of all sexualities were deeply offended by the violent fire and brimstone religious imagery of the literature he was peddling. However, Kelly eventually fell foul of the law when he began sending hate mail to a respected Anglican Priest who supported samesex marriage. The priest, the Reverend Holdsworth, was told that he should kill himself and that serial killers should attack any clergy who support equality. In addition, the court heard that Kelly had also verbally abused two women who were peacefully practicing their pagan religion. He will be sentenced soon and campaigners are hoping that the full force of the law will be imposed on the offender.
