Using corporate and consumer power to effect political change is not a new phenomenon. In Britain, the magazine Ethical Consumer has been championing causes such as fairtrade and veganism for decades. Now, there's been a major response by major corporate advertisers to the right wing news network FoxNews, an American station owned by oligarch Rupert Murdoch and much ridiculed for its zany, xenophobic and homophobic reportage. The network has been rocked by allegations of blatant sexual or racial discrimination against its employees in recent months, and this week, new allegations against its flagship show hosted by right wing pundit Bill o'Reilly has led to megacorporations such as Hyundai and Mercedes Benz to suspend andvertising with the network. The National Organisation of Women, based in Washington, welcomed the developments and expressed the hope that Bill 'o Reilly would soon lose his slot.
