Anti-Trans Extremists Fail to Stop Conference

09/07/2019

Gay Star News says that anti-transgender women protesters were in their words “at it again” after causing even hardline feminists to condemn them for their disruption of Pride London last year. A small group of women unfurled graphic banners outside a conference on trans young people in central London, held on Friday 5th July. Some of the women claimed to be lesbians, although it is notable that the largest lesbian and feminist organisations do not support their actions and say that they do not speak for the majority of women in the UK. The sharing of graphic images of post-transitioning surgery was described by many trans activists as similar to the tactics anti-abortionists use to try and stop women from using termination clinics, and demonstrates an unpalatable truth. As another gay newswire, Pink News found in February, many feminists have quit the anti-trans movement because of the preparedness of the women involved to form alliances with Christian fundamentalists. Meanwhile, on Pink News, a man identifying as an anti-trans gay male made the astonishing and unsubstantiated claim that paedophiles were using the trans youth movement to access young people. Other commentators noted how deeply ironic this is, given that gay men have had to defend themselves from the false accusation that they are paedophiles on many occasions in the past.
