Gina Rippon, whose book, The Gendered Brain, is out now from Bodley Head Publishers, looks at several titles on gender and the brain for The Guardian newspaper. Unfortuantely, Rippon's piece does not focus on the experiences of the transgender or intersex brain, preferring instead to stick to traditional categories of male and female. Nevertheless, she cites several books which the interested reader can consult for information on scientific research on the supposed differences between men and women when it comes to psychological and neurological performance. Delusions of Gender by Cordelia Fine attacks the idea that women are better at language and men at spatial tasks. Using the latest scientific research, Gina Rippon reports that the text shows that these are popular myths but have no basis in proper research findings. Also quoted are The Mind Has No Sex, The Lie Tree and the feminist science fiction novel Woman on the Edge of Time.
