Michael Martin, a member of the Irish Parliament and the leader of the Fianna Fail Party, has condemned what he described as “offensive and dishonest” campaigning by groups opposed to abortion law reform, on which the country votes in a referendum next week, 25th May. Mr Martin said that groups opposed to change, who are largely financed by evangelical Christians from the United States had been deliberately spreading false information, according to the Irish World newspaper. The Irish World was also one of the papers which has come out firmly on the side of repealing the Eighth Constitutional Amendment which disallows abortion.
