Waterstones Sold to Gay Friendly Republican

Elliott Management, the hedge fund run by New York based liberal Republican Paul Singer, has bought Waterstones Bookstore Chain from the Russian billionaire who had previously owned it. Mr Singer is believed to have bought the chain for in the region of two hundred million pounds, according to the Observer newspaper. A very private man, Mr Singer did make a foray into politics in 2011 to back the campaign for marriage equality in New York state. His son is gay and Mr Singer's support for the Republican Party is definitely for the more liberal, centrist wing that supports equal rights for all Americans.
