Hargreaves Lansdown, the famous insurance experts and brokers, have earned much new respect from the LGBT community this week by showing that a corporation can put its money where its mouth is in respect of backing Pride events. Attacked by a rabid individual on Facebook, who threatened to withdraw all their investments with the firm unless it stopped backing LGBT Pride events with rainbow flags and emblems, the plucky company issued a tart response, inviting the individual to contact them without delay so that the withdrawal of their monies could be quickly arranged. This act of solidarity with LGBT people will not go unnoticed, and the proverbial Pink Pound will doubtless will be winging its way towards Hargreaves Lansdown. Commentators online said that this showed the power of queer financial awareness. We have now reached a point whereby the people prepared to invest in a gay and trans friendly company, outweight the losses from fundamentalist and other ne'er do wells taking the business elsewhere. This should allow future campaigns to be better supported and sets a standard for business practice in the UK.
