LGBT People Avoid Fundie Themed Sci Fi

05/12/2018

The Paramount Network television channel, which broadcasts a wide range of the studio's entertainment programmes on most digital platforms in Britain, has been sharply criticised by some LGBT internet commentators for transmitting the “Left Behind” series. “Left Behind” is based on a series of Christian fundamentalist novels which depict the world after the idea of the Rapture, when loyal fundamentalists believe they will ascend to the Kingdom of Heaven. Although not theologically supported by many more reasonable Christian denominations, the concept of the Rapture is common currency amongst the evangelical right wing in the United States and in parts of Britain. As one gay writer once remarked, “if only the fundamentalists would disappear one day, then the world would be populated by gay people, other religions, atheists and pagans, and we'd build a much better society”.
