The country's most respected and best selling lesbian and bisexual women's magazine, Diva, has taken a rare step of getting involved in a dispute within the LGBT communities, challenging a separatist feminist group calling itself the Lesbian Rights Alliance over its claim that trans women somehow negate lesbian identities. The grouping had sent a letter to a conservative newspaper, The Times, to make a case for lesbians to leave the wider LGBT communities and called on gay men to do the same, although it is of note that there seems relatively little anxiety amongst cisgender gay males about transmen. The editor of Diva, and her publisher joined forces to issue an extremely strongly worded condemnation of 1970's style separatist feminism, and pointed out that the movement was stronger united. This did not stop some lesbian feminists from flooding the Diva magazine comments thread with more arguments against transwomen. Nevertheless, the magazine's important stance is an effort to rebuild the unity of the LGBT common movement.
