Gloabl Teachers Prize Shortlists No Outsiders

03/03/2019

Andrew Moffat, a gay schoolteacher from Birmingham, is according to the Times newspaper, to travel to Dubai for the presentation awards of the Varkey Foundation Global Teachers Prize for which he is shortlisted. Mr Moffat helped develop the acclaimed “No Outsiders” programme which helps LGBT and disabled youth and ensures that children understand that in a democracy, there are a variety of faiths, backgrounds and identities coexisting. The Times notes that his approach has garnered threats from Muslim and Christian extremists, as well as neo-Nazis and others on the right wing spectrum. The school, thanks in part to Mr Moffat's dynamism and energy, has been rated “outstanding” in its most recent OFSTED inspection.
