The disabled and LGBT communities have united to condemn the government's outsourcing of benefits payment assessments to people with long term health conditions and disabilities, after it emerged that a gay man, Mr Keith Morgan, from Kent, was subject to serious and intrusive unprofessional questioning from a Christian extremist doctor working on his case. Mr Morgan was told that he was like a “defective car” and that he must report to God's garage to be reprogrammed into an obedient heterosexual. The company that conducted the outsourcing at the time of the remarks, in 2012, did agree to pay damages to Mr Morgan and the doctor in question has been monitored by the General Medical Council for any further signs of unprofessional conduct. Mr Morgan, meanwhile, continues to campaign against the general principle of government assessment for benefits after continued attempts to cut his allowances. Disability Rights organisations report that people with disabilities and long term health conditions continue to bear the brunt of austerity.
